Arnold Lee Basnight

Arnold Lee Basnight, of the Gum Neck community, sunset Sunday, November 25, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was the son of late William H. Basnight and Eva Mae Brown Basnight. Arnold was born October 20, 1952 in Tyrrell County. He joined Piney Grove Disciples of Christ Church at an early age and attended Tyrrell County Public Schools.

In 1975 he married the love of his life Hazel P Sadler, they spent forty-four years loving and supporting each other. Arnold was a kind man who was liked and loved by everyone he met. He enjoyed striking a conversation with anyone for about two hours. He was a good friend who would have a kind word and a smile on his face. He loved to hunt, fish and gather with his family.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Bryan Funeral Service Columbia Chapel. Pastor Lorenzo Moore will officiate. Burial will follow in the family plot at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.

He leaves to cherish his memories of his loving wife Hazel, three daughters, Trina Selby of Boston MA, Pamela Basnight of Durham NC, Benita Sawyer of Edenton NC; two sons’ Derrick Basnight of Kitty Hawk NC, Jamar Brinkley (Jenelle) of Raleigh NC, ten grandchildren, Jamal Selby, Ariel Boomer, Keyonia Basnight, Ashia Basnight, Ariana Selby, Kalicia Basnight, Lamont Selby, John Sawyer, Jr., Jaden and Joshua Brinkley; three brothers, Leon Basnight (Camilla) of Columbia NC, Ervin Basnight (Yvonne) of Staten Island, NY, Herman Basnight of Columbia NC; two sisters, Della Basnight and Mary Bowser of Columbia NC; one uncle Walter Brown of VA; one aunt Tressie Basnight of Norfolk VA; Eddie Whitney of Fairfield and several special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Marshall, Jay and Eric Wayne Basnight; four sisters, Virgia Carter, Kay Brinkley, Louella Bethea and Jean Whiltshire.
