Duard L. Brickhouse

Duard Lester Brickhouse, 87, of 4686 Soundside Road, Columbia, died Friday, January 15, 2016, at the home after a period of declining health.

Born in Tyrrell County, June 6, 1928, he was the son of the late Thedie and Clara Mae Brickhouse. He was married to Winnie Spruill Brickhouse who preceded him in death. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post in Columbia. He was a member of Soundside Free Will Baptist Church and spent most of his working years as meat manager with the Navy Commissary in Norfolk VA.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the Columbia Chapel of Bryan Funeral Service. Rev. Royce Reynolds will officiate. Burial will follow in Azalea Memorial Gardens.

Surviving are his son, John H. “Skip” Woodard and wife, Robin of Columbia; a daughter, Gwen W. Edwards and husband, Richard of Columbia; a special cousin reared as a child in the family home, Jamie Weeks of Dunn; a half-sister, Ann B. Twiford of Elizabeth City; grandchildren, Katrina Woodard, Autumn Edwards, Nikki Woodard and Joey Edwards; five great-grandchildren.

The family suggests that memorials be directed to American Legion Post, c/o Leroy Spivey, Treas. P. O. Box 346, Columbia NC 27925 or Soundside Free Will Baptist Church Youth Fund, c/o Kathy Cahoon, Treas. P O. Box 125, Columbia NC 27925.

The family will receive friends during the hour prior to the funeral and other times at the home.
