James “Jimmy” Martin Armstrong
August 26, 1942 – January 1, 2019

James “Jimmy” Martin Armstrong, 76, of Fairfield, died, Tuesday, January 1, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.

Jimmy was born in Tyrrell County, August 26, 1942, he was the son of the late Martin Dewey and Hellen Marie Cutrell Armstrong and was married to the former Alice Ann Gibbs who survives. He was a member of the Fairfield Christian Church, where he served as a deacon.

He faithfully served his country during the Vietnam War with the United States Army and for over thirty-two years he worked as a mechanic supervisor with the North Carolina Forestry Service, the Natural Resources of North Carolina, the Dare County Bombing Range and prior to his retirement he worked for Precision Custom Farming.

He was a mason and a member of the Atlantic Lodge #294 AF&AM.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, mechanic work and providing for his family.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 4, 2019 at the Fairfield Christian Church. Billy Ray Askew and Steven Mills will officiate. Burial will follow in the family plot in Fairfield Cemetery.

In addition to his wife surviving are three sons, Paul Harvey Gibbs and wife, Kim of Engelhard, Marty James Armstrong and Michael Armstrong and wife, Judy both of Fairfield; three grandchildren, April Peterson, Josh Gibbs and wife, Jessica and Danielle Gibbs; seven great grandchildren, Garrett Guthrie, Logan Guthrie, Annabell Guthrie, Jaxsen Gibbs, Dixie Peterson, Remington Peterson and Mia Peterson;  two brothers, Jerry Dewey Armstrong and wife, Mary of Fairfield and Larry Wayne Armstrong and wife, Jan of Texas.

The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday and other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Amedisys Foundation, 201 East Water Street, Plymouth, NC 27962.
