April 5, 1930 – January 17, 2016

Katie B. Weatherly, 85, of the Gum Neck Community, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, January 17, 2016.

Born in Tyrrell County, April 5, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Lee R. and Dixie Holloway Barnes. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, John Junior Weatherly. She spent her working years as a substitute teacher in the Tyrrell County Public Schools where she served for 22 years.

Mrs. Weatherly was a member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church where she served many years as church pianist, was a Sunday school teacher and active in all church functions. She was a lady of strong faith and was the rock of her family. She took pride in her grand and great-grandchildren.

Visitation with the family will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Columbia Chapel of Bryan Funeral Service followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Hyung S. Kim will officiate. Burial will follow in Azalea Memorial Gardens.

Surviving are a son, Eric T. Weatherly and wife, Leslie of Southern Shores; four daughters, Freda W. Lowe and husband, Roy of Sanford, Millie W. Lilley and husband, Randy of Williamston, Diane W. Barber and Steve of Elizabeth City and Melissa W. Whitehead of Nashville; two sisters, Rosa Lee B. Ainsley of Columbia and Peggy B. Wintijens and husband, Jim of Edna, Kansas; a brother, David L. Barnes and wife, Millie of Camden; grandchildren, Heather L. Danley of Sanford, Roy D. Lowe, Jr. and wife, Amanda of Greensboro, Amber F. Tomasch and husband, Charles of Falls Church, VA, Dane D. Ferrell and wife, Ashton of Fuquay Varina, Amanda Castor and husband, Brandon of Cary, Matthew Weatherly of Southern Shores, Alex Whitehead and Stuart Whitehead both of Nashville; great-grandchildren include Macie Lowe, Connor and Cora Tomasch and Preston Ferrell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, 2668 N. Gum Neck Road, Columbia NC 27925.

The family wishes to thank the community for their love and support of their Mama.
