Lisa Carolyn Gibbs, 59, of Greenville, NC passed away peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 15, 2019.

Lisa was born on December 11, 1959 in Belhaven, North Carolina. The oldest of three daughters, she was born to the late James Allen Gibbs and Carolyn Bare Gibbs of Engelhard, NC. She was the granddaughter of the late Richard Lee Gibbs, Sr. and Lois Mann Gibbs of Engelhard, NC and the late Ambrose and Daisy Lena Bare of West Jefferson, NC.

She grew up in Engelhard, NC and graduated from Mattamuskeet High School. After high school she graduated from East Carolina University where she earned a degree in Business Administration. She was employed by NCNB Bank of Greenville, NC and later managed Equity One Financial Corporation Office in Greenville, NC. She was most recently employed by East Carolina University in the Anthropology Department until her early retirement due to declining health.

Easygoing and carefree, Lisa had a great love for life. She loved her family and friends greatly and her canine dog-child, Tucker. She was a loving sister, daughter, aunt and friend. She especially doted on her four nieces, always being the “apple of her eye”. She was gifted with an early passion for reading and at a young age she was often found reading books for hours. Lisa also loved traveling, especially to the Outer Banks where she along with her sisters and friends would travel weekly during warm months while growing up. She thoroughly enjoyed going on cruises to Caribbean destinations and traveling across country to California and Nevada.

Lisa will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved her.

Lisa was a lifelong member of Engelhard United Methodist Church where she attended regularly growing up. She most recently attended Salem United Methodist Church in Simpson, NC until her health no longer allowed. Lisa had a strong faith in God and lived a remarkable journey with brain cancer for over fifteen years. God truly worked miracles in her life.

Lisa is survived by sisters Candace G. Watson and husband Randy, and Allison G. Harris and husband David, all of Greenville, NC, nieces Kayla W. Manning and husband Taylor, Haley W. Foster and husband Nick, Courtney Harris and Caitlin Harris, two great nieces and a great nephew.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all of Lisa’s wonderful caregivers from Action Health Staffing and McGregor Downs Health and Rehab Center.

A memorial service and celebration of Lisa’s life will be held at Amity United Methodist Church in Engelhard, NC on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Steve Bryan will officiate.
