Michael Griffin

Mike Griffin, 79, of Columbia, died, Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.

Mike was born September 28, 1939, to the late Frank and Margaret May Woodley Griffin. He was married to Suzanne Karisny Ehrlick Griffin  who survives.

He was a member of Saint Andrews Episcopal Church and served as Mayor of the Town of Columbia for ten years. He was an avid sailor, past member of the Columbia Rotary Club, supporter of the Arts and the Tyrrell County Public Library.

A memorial service will be held at 12: 00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Bryan Funeral Service, Columbia Chapel. Father Joe Cooper will officiate.

In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, David Griffin of Massachusetts; a daughter, Teresa Griffin of Alabama; two step daughters, Cindy Durham and husband, Jeremy of Texas and Melissa Buchan and husband, Richie of Scotland; four grandchildren, William Griffin, Caitlin Griffin, Peyton Durham and Brooke Durham.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Willie Basnight; a son, John Griffin; two brothers, John Griffin and Henry Griffin and a sister, Margaret Ann “Peggy” Griffin.

The family will receive friends at the Griffin residence immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Saint Andrews Episcopal Church.
