Oscar Dean Berry, Sr., 66, of Scranton went to be with his heavenly father, Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.

Born in Beaufort County, January 4, 1952, he was the son of the late James Oscar and Margaret Gibbs Berry. He was married to the former Sherrie Phelps who survives.

 He was a member of Eunice Chapel Church of Christ. Those who knew Dean, knew him as a mechanic and painter in the automobile industry. He also worked for Sawyer’s Land Developing. He was known for his kindness and he would do anything he could to help anyone.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 21, 2018 at Eunice Chapel Church of Christ. Thomas Biggs will officiate. Burial will follow at Beulah Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters Darlene Williams and husband Tiny of Scranton, Melissa Berry and Brenda Brickhouse “B.J” of Belhaven; a son, Oscar Dean “D.J.”  Berry, Jr and wife Hannah of Scranton; four grandchildren, Brendan Berry, Jacob Berry, James Berry and John Berry; four brothers, Lester Berry and wife, Lucille, Henry Berry and wife, Darlene, Baron Berry and wife, Tammy and Greg Berry and wife Susan all of Scranton and several nieces and nephews all who he adored and loved very much.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Berry and a sister, Dorothy B. Gunn.

The family will receive friends at the church during the hour prior to the service.
