August 19, 1932 – January 1, 2019

Sallie Hortense Easterling Mann, passed away on January 1, 2019. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Martha and husband, Ronnie Faulkner.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Thomas Jefferson “T.J.” Mann; her parents; loving sister and brothers.

Funeral services will be held at Amity United Methodist Church, Lake Landing on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. with burial immediately following in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at St. George’s Episcopal Church Parrish Hall.

Sallie was raised after her mother’s death when she was twelve, by her sisters, Rachel Greer and Martha Swindell and their husbands, Brooks and Russell. She lived with them in Covington, GA and Swan Quarter, NC.

Sallie graduated from East Carolina College Suma Cum Laude with a degree in English and Voice. She later received a master’s degree from ECU and a second master’s degree in Library Science from Catholic University, Georgetown.

She lived for many years in Winterville and Ayden. Sallie was a librarian at Sheppard Memorial Library before joining the staff of Joyner Library at ECU.

After her retirement she was employed by Hyde County Schools as a “traveling” librarian. Sallie and T.J. first retired to Hyde County and later moved to their home on the Pungo River in Woodstock, Belhaven. She and T.J. loved their home and the river and enjoyed entertaining family and friends.

In 2013, she moved to Cypress Glen Retirement Community where she became an active member, playing bridge and working in the library.

She made many good friends and is described by them as being loyal, gracious, considerate and loving. She was active for many years in Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority.

Surviving loved ones also include nieces Mary-Anne Brannon and Liz Anne Allen and their husbands and children; her special friend Frankie Cubbedge and children, with whom she shared a “sister’s love”; and countless cousins, nieces, nephews and “great” nieces and nephews; and her grand dog, Pepper.
