George C. "Pop" Swindell

George Caffee "Pop" Swindell, 87, of Engelhard, died Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.

Born in New Holland, Hyde County, May 20, 1929, he was the son of the late Cecil and and Nina Caffee Swindell. He was married to the former Claire Allen who preceded him in death.

From an early age, Pop became a commercial fisherman. He was known for his generosity to others. He loved his family and friends, and he was larger than life.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at the family plot in Soule Cemetery. Steve Bryan will officiate.

The family will gather with friends immediately following the service.

Surviving is a daughter; Lori Swindell-Creque and husband, Richard of Engelhard; a son George Steven Bartron of Newport News,VA; two sisters, Nan S. Parks of Hayes, Virginia and Evelyn S. Sadler of Manteo; two brothers, John Swindell of Washington and Jesse Swindell of Rocky Mount; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Steve Swindell; a grandson, William G. Keanan; two sisters, Celia Swindell and Kathryn S. Cahoon; two brothers, Kenneth Swindell and Thomas Swindell.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of George C. Swindell, c/o Bryan Funeral Service, 119 Main St., Swan Quarter, NC 27885.
