LUCY D. GIBBS
September 27, 1931 – April 23, 2016

Lucy Elizabeth Douglas Gibbs, 84, of 284 Roper Lane, Engelhard and more recently residing at Cross Creek Health Care Center, Swan Quarter, died Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Cross Creek Health Care Center.

Born in Hyde County, September 27, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Samuel S. and Sarah Elizabeth Harris Douglas. She was married to Calvin C. Gibbs, Sr. who preceded her in death in 1978. She was a member of the Engelhard Christian Church and found great joy in caring for her family including children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the family plot in Soule Cemetery, Swan Quarter. Scott Sukeforth and Steve Bryan will officiate.

Surviving are a son, Calvin C. Gibbs, Jr. and wife, Lori Ann of Manns Harbor; a daughter, Alice G. Litchfield of Engelhard; a sister, Mary Alice G. Bunty of Robersonville; three grandchildren, Kevin Gibbs, Melissa Gibbs and Nicola Litchfield; three great grandchildren, Riley Gibbs, Devin O'Neal and Mikalee Gibbs.

Lucy was preceded in death by her brothers, Horace Douglas, Harry Douglas, Earl Lee Douglas, Carroll Douglas and Eugene Douglas; her sisters, Evon Gibbs, Earline Daw, Virginia Nobles and Clyda Mae Brinkley.

Memorials are suggested to Cross Creek Health Care Center, 1719 Quarter Road, Swan Quarter NC 27885.

The family will receive friends at Bryan Funeral Service in Swan Quarter from Noon to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday and following the funeral service at the cemetery.
