Alfred G. Gibbs
January 15, 1954 – March 7, 2019

Alfred Grandy Gibbs, 65, of Columbia, died, Thursday, March 7, 2019, at Vidant Hospital, Greenville.

Born in Chowan County, January 15, 1954, he was the son of the late Oriville and Mary Payne Gibbs. He was married to the former Beth Cooper who survives.

He was a member of the Gum Neck, Church of Christ. Loving husband and father, he loved to fish, hunting, boating, and football.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 16, 2019, at the Cooper Family Cemetery, 45 Parisher Road, Columbia, NC. Pastor Jon Langley will officiate.

In addition to his wife surviving is a son, Christian Gibbs of Charlotte; two daughters, Mary Strickland of Chocowinity and Leslie Rhodes of Columbia; four grandchildren, Joshua Strickland, Cody Strickland, Matthew Lenz, Austin Lenz and Riley Rhodes; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Strickland and Tawni Strickland; a sister, Ellen Jones Gibbs and husband, Barry of Columbia; a brother Harry Cahoon of Raleigh, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Delton Cahoon, William Payne, Herbert Lee Cahoon, Jr., and a sister, Shelby Cahoon

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to assist the family with final expenses, please contact Mrs. Mary Cooper or Leslie Rhodes.
