BENJAMIN G. KONKEL, JR.
October 1, 1942 – February 2, 2017

Benjamin Gilbert Konkel, Jr., age 74, of 3308 North Gum Neck Road, Columbia, died early Thursday, February 2, 2017.

Born in Flanders, N.Y. on October 1, 1942, he was the son of the late Benjamin Gilbert Konkel, Sr. and Mary Ellen Rowe Konkel. He was married to Norma Margarita Anleu who survives. He was an automotive mechanic during his working years, served in the United States Navy on the USS Yosemite for three years, and moved to the Gum Neck Community in 2003.

A memorial service will be held at 3:30 pm, Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the Doughty Funeral Home in Exmore, Virginia.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Benjamin G. Konkel, III of Chesapeake VA; two daughters, Jackie Konkel Clark and husband, Gerald of Zuni, VA and Dawn Konkel Bates of Wilmington, NC; two brothers, Tim Konkel and George Konkel both of Flanders, NY; three sisters, Katherine Konkel of Flanders NY, Mary Konkel Becker of Manorville, NY and Joan Konkel of Tennessee; six grandchildren, Matthew Simpson, Brandon Simpson, Travis Bates, Nick Bates, Lorraine Konkel and Danny Konkel.
