Charles Edward Williford, Jr.

Charles Edward Williford, Jr., 79, of Engelhard, NC, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

Charles was born on May 7, 1947, in Raleigh, NC, to the late Charles Williford, Sr. and Dorothy Hill Williford. He was the devoted husband of the former Carolyn Gibbs, and they shared nearly 60 years of marriage.  Charles was a member of the Engelhard Baptist Church but attended Engelhard Christian Church.

In 1967, Charles and Carolyn moved to Hyde County, where they made their home, raised their family, and became deeply rooted in the community they loved. Charles first owned the Esso station in Swan Quarter before turning his attention to farming in Engelhard. A hardworking and successful businessman, Charles and Carolyn owned and operated Williford Farms, Williford Trucking, and Williford Auto Supply.

Charles was a man who believed in being involved and giving back to his community. He was a member of the Jaycees and the Engelhard Development Corporation and served with the Engelhard Volunteer Fire Department. He also served on the board of Coastal Carolina Cotton Gin and on the board of Combat Warriors, Inc.

While Charles was proud of his work and his many contributions to the community, his greatest joy was his family. He loved following his grandchildren to their sporting events and other activities and took great pride in his family. He could often be found at school and church events, where he was known for bringing his "famous" homemade ice cream to share with family, friends, and the community.

In addition to his wife, Carolyn, Charles is survived by his two sons, Michael and wife Kathy, and Steve and wife Denise, all of Engelhard; four grandchildren, Kevin and wife Hannah, Ashley, Kelly, and Chase; and one great-grandchild, Jackson. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret Poole and husband Ray of Selma; and nephews Chris Hockaday and wife Crystal, Brandon Hockaday and wife Lacy, and Trevor Poole.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 28, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Bryan Funeral Service in Swan Quarter, NC

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Engelhard Christian Church, 294 Lazy Lane, Engelhard, NC.
