Dorothy N. Berry
August 7, 1931 – September 19, 2026

Dorothy Wae Nixon Berry, 95, of Fairfield, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.

Dorothy was born in Hyde County, on August 7, 1931, to the late William B. and Bertie Cutrell Nixon, Sr.  She married Garland Grant Berry, who preceded her in death.

Dorothy was devoted homemaker who lived independently most of her life.  She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all her heart.  She was a life-long member of Fairfield Christian Church.  She was involved with bi-annual activities of the Primitive Baptist Church in Fairfield.  She was a member of the Red Hatters Club.  She enjoyed going places with the ladies wearing her purple dress and red hat.  She loved working in her flower beds and keeping her yard looking good.  She also liked watching and feeding the birds in her yard.  She made sure the bird feeder was kept full.

There will be a visitation from 10:00-11:00 am, on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at the Fairfield Christian Church Fellowship Hall;  or other times you may visit with her children at their individual homes.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at the Fairfield Christian Church, officiated by Billy Ray Askew.  Interment will follow at the Fairfield Cemetery.

Dorothy is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Berry (Wanda) of Fairfield, and Rodney Berry (Monika) of Manteo; two daughters, Gwen B. Ballance (Mitchell) of Fairfield, and Sharon B. Gibbs (Mac) of Engelhard; grandchildren:  Chrisitan Gibbs(Connie), Allen Berry, Sheena Fuller (Myers), Steven Gibbs (Jessica), Hunter Gibbs (Angi), Haley Ballance, Chelsea Ballance, Jessica B. Credle (Glenn), and Jeremy Berry (Dawn); and great-grandchildren:  Sidney Credle, Ana Fuller, Dottie Fuller, Grant Gibbs, Sara Gibbs, Addison Gibbs, Tristen Berry, Kendall Berry, and Emerilyn Berry.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, W.B. Nixon Jr., and Milburn Nixon, and her sister Alice Cahoon.
