ETTA W. WARD
April 29, 1927 – October 18, 2017

Etta Mae Weatherly Armstrong Ward, 90, of 306 Bridge Street, Columbia, died Wednesday, October 18, 2017, in Harbor's Edge Health Center, Norfolk, VA where she had been a patient recently.

Born, April 29, 1927, in Tyrrell County, she was the daughter of the late Doss and Carrie Jones Weatherly. She was first married to Thomas Elwood Armstrong who preceded her in death. She later married Colley H. Ward, who also preceded her in death. She was a member of the Gum Neck Church of Christ where she served as Sunday school teacher, Bible school teacher and still served as Greeter for the church, and was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Ward was a member of Columbia Lion's Club, active in the Lion's Club Visually Impaired Persons Fishing Tournament, more than a 50-year member of Order of Eastern Star, Columbia Chapter. She retired as nutrition site manager at Columbia Senior Center and worked for many years as nursing assistant at the former Columbia Hospital.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Gum Neck Church of Christ. Jon Langley, her pastor, and Scott Bishop will officiate. Interment will follow in Azalea Memorial Gardens.

Surviving are two sons, Gordon Dean Armstrong and wife, Peggy and Thomas Eric Armstrong and wife, Marie all of Chesapeake, VA; three daughters, Gwen A. White and husband, Rhett of Columbia, Sheila A. Bryant and husband, Billy of Chesapeake VA and Jennifer "Jinky" A. Davenport and husband, Louie of Wanchese; grandchildren, Curtis Lamar White, J. Owen White and wife, Amy, Tonya B. Davis and husband, Bill, Tina B. Gallucci and husband, John, Trey Bryant and wife, Lauren, Leon Bryant and wife, Belle, Candy A. and husband, Kenny Simmons, Dawn A. Morris and husband, Jack "Bo", Bridget Reynolds and husband, Ben, Blair Bishop and husband, Scott, "Bo" Davenport, Thomas Ean Armstrong and wife, Jessica, Tyler Armstrong and wife, Stephanie, Vickie Smith; great-grandchildren, Maya White, Connor, Sydney, Ryan &, Dylan Davis, Gabby & Vivi Gallucci, Savannah & Mollie Bryant, Korey, Casey, Kevin and Carleigh Simmons, Jackson and Brooke Morris, Daven, Gabe, Shane and Hank Reynolds, Emma, Josiah, Silas and Titus Bishop, Christopher Bryant and wife, Kayla and Jonathan Bryant; great-great grandchild, Sadie Jane Bryant.

Mrs. Ward is also survived by her family from the marriage to Colley Ward, a daughter, Colleen Ambrose and husband, Robert, step grandchildren, Christy Hufton and husband, Garry, Daniel Hayes and wife, Jill, and Seth Ambrose; Kaitlyn and husband, Tyler, Bentley and Ashton Harvey , Kieran, Joah and Avianna Hayes. She was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Kathy Hayes, wife of Glenn Hayes who survives.

She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Calvin Weatherly, Max Weatherly, Edison Weatherly and Nattie Sawyer.

The family will receive friends at Bryan Funeral Service, Columbia Chapel 162 L. A. Keiser Drive, on Friday evening, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and other times at the home.
