F. CARL ENNIS
November 6, 1940 – July 9, 2017

Francis Carl Ennis, 76, of 146 Hunter Road, The Gum Neck Community, Columbia, died on Sunday, July 9, 2017.

Born in Dover, Deleware on November 6, 1940, he was the son of the late Bradford and Elizabeth Gibbons Ennis. He was married to the former Janet E. Sylvester who survives.

The Ennis moved from Townsend, Deleware to Manteo in 1992 to fulfil his dream of being a charter boat captain. Prior to moving, he spent his working life in farming and logging. In 2006, they moved to Columbia where he continued his waterman's career crabbing and eeling, etc. He was often known as "Turtleman Carl".

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Donald E. Ennis of Smyrna, DE and David A. Ennis of Columbia; a daughter, Carol F. Maryott and husband, Randy of Rancho Mirage, CA; a sister, Dot E. Fowser of Pennsville NJ; grandchildren, Deanna Long, Dylan Ennis, Donald Ennis and Justin Ennis.

He was preceded in death by siblings, Gene Ennis, Jim Langford and Mary Pierson.

There will be a private memorial service at a later date.
