Jacqueline Schmidt Finch, age 97, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026, at Washington Regional Medical Center, leaving behind a legacy of faith, music, and devoted service to her family and community.

Born in St. Louis on October 23, 1928, Jacqueline was the daughter of Jacob and Magdalena Schmidt. She often shared fond memories of growing up in St. Louis and loved telling stories about her parents, who were German immigrants and instilled in her the values of faith, perseverance, and family.

In 1949, Jacqueline married the love of her life, Dalton Finch. A few years later, they made their home in Plymouth, where they built a life together and became cherished members of the community.

Jacqueline dedicated more than 30 years of service to the Washington County Schools. She served as secretary to the superintendent and as bookkeeper for the school lunch program. Throughout her career, she was respected for her professionalism, dedication, and kindness.

A woman of deep Christian faith, Jacqueline faithfully shared her musical talents by playing the organ and piano in church for many years. Through her music, she helped lead worship and brought comfort, inspiration, and joy to countless people.

Jacqueline was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dalton Finch; her parents, Jacob and Magdalena Schmidt; her sister, Laura Mae Bickford; her brother, Michael Schmidt; her son, Michael Finch; and her granddaughter, Heather Davenport Small.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Davenport and husband, Tim; her grandson, Daryl Davenport and wife, Katherine; her great-grandchildren, Elijah Davenport, Essence Zelaski and husband, Peter, Jaden Small, Aaliyah Small, Landon Davenport, and Amiyah Small; her great-great-grandson, Roman Zelaski; as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Jacqueline will be remembered for her unwavering faith, gentle spirit, and the simple joys that brought her happiness. She loved listening to old gospel hymns, enjoying something sweet, and savoring a good "cup of Joe." She never tired of talking about St. Louis and sharing treasured stories of her childhood and family. Her warm smile, kind heart, and gift for storytelling brought joy to everyone around her.

Her life was one of quiet strength, faithful service, and enduring love. Through her family, her church, her career, and her kindness to others, she leaves a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire generations.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 29, 2026, at Gospel Light Church of Christ with Pastor Steve Creech officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens in Plymouth

A visitation will be held at the church on Monday, June 29, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.
