Janet S. Midgett
August 10, 1944 – December 2, 2023

Janet Spencer Midgett, 79, of Engelhard, died, on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at home, surrounded by her loving family.

Janet was born in Hyde County on August 10, 1944, to the late Michael Lewis and Theola "Tom" Gibbs Spencer. She was married to Randy Midgett of Stumpy Point for 49 years who survives.

She was a member of Pleasant Grove Church of Christ and a graduate of Roanoke Bible College where she obtained an Associate Degree in Accounting. She worked as a bookkeeper for various seafood companies including Wanchese Fish Company, Fisherman's Exchange, Wahoo Seafood, and Engelhard Seafood Incorporated, from whence she retired and later she became an Avon Sales Representative for over fifteen years.

In her early years, Janet was able to get assistance from various churches, which allowed her to go to Mexico to be a Missionary, she enjoyed her time there and spoke of the work and lifelong friends she made often.

She enjoyed crocheting, reading, and playing the piano. Amongst her favorite things to do were spending time making crafts and painting with her grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held, on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Church of Christ. Raffael Farrow, Jr., and Bill Griffin will officiate. A private inurnment will follow in the Robert Carson Gibbs Cemetery.

In addition to her husband surviving is a son, Michael Midgett (Sandy) of Wanchese; two daughters, Dori Midgett and Cristi Midgett both of Engelhard; five grandchildren, Hannah Payne, Kortland Midgett, Richie Riddlebarger, II, Kaitlyn Midgett, and MollyAnne O'Neal; two great-grandchildren, Striker Davenport and Mariah Payne of Columbia, NC; one brother, Nathan Lewis (Pat) of Minnesott Beach, NC; two sisters, Glenda Paul of Lowlands, NC, Jackie Gibbs (Chris) of Engelhard; two nieces, Pam Hammond and Children, Anita Roberson(Brent) and children, a nephew Jamie Yeatts (Stephanie), and brother-in-law Don Sadler, of Williamston, NC.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ivadell "Tootsie" Hammond of Clarkesville, VA, and Lorraine Sadler of Williamston, NC.
