John Winston Outten, 88, of 109 Alden Road, Plymouth, died late Friday, May 20, 2016, at his residence.

Born in Norfolk, VA on January 24, 1928, he was the son of the late John Elison and Nona Latham Outten. He was married to the former Mary Carol O'Connor who survives. He was a member of Plymouth Lodge AF & AM and was long active in Grace Episcopal Church, and served as administrator of Washington County Hospital for many years.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday in Grace Episcopal Church. The Reverend Henry Burdick and Rev. D. Andrew Olivo will officiate. Inurnment will follow on the family plot in the church graveyard.

Surviving in addition to his wife are, three sons, Jeffrey Alan Outten and wife, Fennette of Hot Springs, Ark., Robert Latham Outten and wife, Connie of Southern Shores and John Dana Outten and wife, Audrey of Roper; grandchildren include Lindsay Gullett and Ryan of Fayetteville, Ark., Stacia Petrancosta and Christopher of Washington DC, Elizabeth Outten of Cary, Stephen Outten and Ashley of Wilmington NC, Graham Outten of Kitty Hawk, Caroline Outten of Raleigh, Catherine Outten Olivo and Andy of Washington DC and John Outten of Raleigh; four great-grandchildren, Gwen Gullett, Tate Petrancosta, Charles Olivo and Emery Outten.

Mr. Outten was preceded in death by a sister, Bertie Outten Lilley.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Grace Episcopal Church, Plymouth NC 27962.

The family will receive friends in the church Parish House following the committal service and other times at the home.
