Joyce W. Carawan
April 26, 1942 – July 11, 2026

Joyce W. Carawan, 84, of Swan Quarter, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at her home.

Joyce was born on April 26, 1942, in Hyde County, to the late William Wayt and Rosa Bell Snoddy Wheeler.  She married Sherlin Carawan who preceded her in death.

Joyce was a member of the Swan Quarter Baptist Church, and spent her working years as a finance officer in the Hyde County Public School system and for Carawan Farms.  She enjoyed cooking, reading, and playing cards with the family.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am, on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at the Swan Quarter Baptist Church, with Pastor Jimmy Johnson officiating.  Burial will follow in Soule Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family at Mrs. Joyce's home from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

She is survived by her two sons, Tony Carawan and wife Karen, and George Bryan Carawan and wife Ginger, all of Swan Quarter, grandchildren: Courtney C. Hensley (Dillon) of Eklton, VA, Chase Carawan (Maggie) of Swan Quarter, Dillon Carawan (Georgia) of Swan Quarter, and Devin Carawan (Perri) of Swan Quarter, great-grandchildren: Reece Carawan, Wade Carawan, and Farrah Carawan; her brother, William W. Wheeler, Jr. of Manteo and sister, Marian W. Carawan of Swan Quarter.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers Buddy Wheeler and Joseph Aubrey Wheeler; and sisters, Dorothy W. Cahoon, Marjorie W. Alexander, Evelyn W. Wise, Doris W. Jernigan, Jean W. O'Neal, Eleanor W. Swindell, and Mae W. Lupton.
