Kathryn R. Cooper
March 13, 1923 – April 4, 2017

Kathryn Rhodes Cooper, 94, formerly of Columbia died Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at Roanoke Landing Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Plymouth.

Born in Tyrrell County, March 13, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Walter McCleese and Blanche Sutton Rhodes. She was married to Kenneth Lester Cooper who preceded her in death.

She was a long active member of Malachi Chapel Free Will Baptist Church where she served as a substitute Sunday School teacher and was a member of the choir.

During her early working years she was as a nursing assistant for Dr. Chaplin in Columbia. Mrs. Kathryn enjoyed sewing, cooking, spending time with her family, tending to her flowers and plants; she was always working in her yard and her garden.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Malachi Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, Rev. Royce Reynolds will officiate. Burial will follow in the family plot in Azalea Memorial Gardens.

Surviving is a son, Vincent Larry Cooper and wife Thadine of Plymouth; five grandchildren, Denise Krupski of VA, Melanie Wright and husband Robert of Winterville, Vincent Cooper, Jr. and wife April of Robersonville, Stephanie Johnston and husband Stacey of Plymouth, Matthew Cooper and wife Carley of Pinetown; thirteen great grandchildren; one great-greatgrandchild; three sisters, Marion Windham and Edna Pearce both of Raleigh and Evie Lamb and husband Lester of Elizabeth City.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a son Don Cooper; six brothers, Albert Rhodes, Charles Rhodes, Ralph Rhodes, Joseph Rhodes, Wilbert Rhodes and Carroll Rhodes; three sisters, Doris Rhodes, Mary Godfrey and Ethel Kelly.

The family will receive friends at the church during the hour prior to the service.

Arrangements are by Bryan Funeral Service at Hampton Academy, Plymouth.
