It is with deep sadness that the family of Lindley Bowen Windley, Jr. announces his passing on Wednesday morning, January 27, 2016 at Chowan River Health Care and Rehabilitation in Edenton.

Lindley was born on Mother's Day, May 14, 1926 to Lindley Bowen Windley, Sr. and Etta Pearl Rice Windley. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Marion Davenport Windley, sisters Grace Chesson, Margaret Wilhalf, Olive May Ainsley, Jane Spruill and Annette Alston. He is survived by his daughter, Teresa Windley Kishbaugh (Gary) of Bear, Deleware, his son, Jeffrey Lin Windley (Marinda) of Portsmouth, Virginia, granddaughters, Marinda Lorraine, Meshel Opal, Jennifer and 8 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Windley was a WWII veteran and retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Virginia having completed 35 years of combined military and government service. After retirement he and Marion returned home to Columbia, North Carolina where they enjoyed almost 30 very happy years together with family and friends. His second love was music, being well versed in trumpet, piano and organ. He served as organist at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Columbia for many years. He also thoroughly enjoyed assisting the music program at Columbia High School as pianist for a number of years. He was an incredibly talented, well-loved man and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. Pastor Hyung Kim will officiate. Burial will be at Soundside Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

Friends and neighbors are welcome to join the family in the church fellowship hall following the service. Donations in memory of Lindley and Marion may be made to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church Children's Program.
