Martha Blount Rodman Simpson
Martha Blount Rodman Simpson passed away peacefully early Monday morning, November 2nd, surrounded by her family. Her kindness and grace lifted many.
Martha Blount was known for her warm heart, generous spirit, and deep dedication to her faith and family. She found joy in gathering loved ones and nurturing lifelong friendships. Although she loved her adventures both far and near, she especially enjoyed home: the waters of the Albemarle Sound and the banks of Nags Head. Always a champion for others, her strength, wisdom, and gentle encouragement will be remembered by all who knew her.
Born to William Blount Rodman and Martha O’Keeffe Rodman in 1943 in Lawton, Oklahoma during WWII, she grew up in Plymouth, NC, spending summers on the Albemarle Sound. She married her high school sweetheart, William Golden Simpson, and began building a full life. Martha Blount was on the go: church, ballgames, knit night, bridge, history and book clubs, Tazewell and Colington. She cherished showing up for her people. She was especially devoted to the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina.
She is predeceased by her husband, William Golden Simpson, and son, William Golden Simpson, Jr. She is survived by her children, Elizabeth Simpson Davenport (Grant), Suzanne Simpson Koonce (John), daughter-in-law Susan Lee Simpson and devoted sister Helen Rodman Galligan. She leaves unwavering love for her grandchildren: Jade Simpson, William Grant Davenport (Elena), McCoy Davenport, Helen Koonce, Liza Koonce, great-granddaughter Evelina Davenport, niece Hunter Galligan and nephew Casey Galligan.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 5th, at 2:00 PM at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Columbia, NC. Burial will follow at Grace Episcopal Church Cemetery in Plymouth, NC. The family will receive friends at the home immediately following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 615, Columbia, NC 27925.
Arrangements are by Bryan Funeral Service.
