Mary "Dotty" Simmons Cooper
December 20. 1949 – November 19, 2023

Mary "Dotty" Simmons Cooper, 73, of Columbia, passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at her home.

Dotty was born in Tyrrell County on December 20, 1949, to the late Dempsey and Marion Bateman Simmons.

Dotty was a classic southern lady, loving and caring for her family.  She was known for her charity to numerous causes.  Caregiving was second nature for Dotty. She was very fond of children and was a longtime babysitter for many children, caring for them from infancy on.  She worked for the former Swain store, Ben Franklin, and was an accomplished seamstress.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Bryan Funeral Service, Columbia, with Pastor Prudencio Casas officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service.

She is survived by her son, Sean B. Simmons of Concord, NC, a sister, Lorraine Williams of Creswell, and longtime friend, Bob Gehr.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin J. Cooper, Jr., and sisters:  Margaret Swain, Sally Simmons, Juanita Davis, and Wilma Roughton.
