Nellie "Nell" G. Martin
October 28, 1927 – January 2, 2021

Nell Gray Gibbs Martin, 93, of the Ponzer Community, died, Saturday, January 2, 2021, at her residence.

Mrs. Nell was born in Hyde County on October 28, 1927, to the late Bland and Katie Mae Watson Gibbs. She was married to Hampton David Martin who preceded her in death.

She was a member of Mt. Olive Church of Christ, the Ponzer Ruritan Club, a former trustee of the Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church, and the Hyde County Historical and Genealogical Society.

Following her husband's death, she obtained her real estate broker's license and worked for the Woodstock Realty Group in Belhaven for several years.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at the family plot in the Mt. Olive Church of Christ Church Cemetery. Pastor Mike Caton will officiate.

Surviving is a son, Dennis H. Martin of the Ponzer Community; a daughter, Judy M. Guthrie of Washington; three grandchildren, Robert D. Guthrie, David V. Guthrie, Beverly D. Van Staalduinen; fifteen great-grandchildren; four great greatgrandchildren and one sister-in-law, Doris Gibbs of Belhaven.

In addition to her husband she was also preceded in death by a son David B. Martin; two brothers, Benjamin Gibbs, Joseph Thomas "J.T." Gibbs, and a sister, Annie Mae Hatfield.
