Sondra H. Gibbs

February 2, 1943 – April 22, 2022

Sondra "Michael" Hinnant Gibbs, 79, of Swan Quarter, went home to the Lord on Friday, April 22, 2022, at the Carrolton of Williamston.

Michael was born in Wake County, on February 2, 1943, to the late Philip and Nancy Earp Hinnant.

She graduated from Cary High School in 1961 and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Illinois. Michael served in the United States Army as well as in the North Carolina National Guard.

Michael was known for her strong faith, encouraging words, and her incredible creativity decorating gourds, sewing, and other artistic abilities.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 25, 2022, at Sladesville Baptist Church with burial to follow at Soule Cemetery. Phil Dietz will officiate.

Surviving is her husband, C.D. Gibbs of Swan Quarter; four daughters; Zoe Underwood of Raleigh, Melanie Flanagan of Florida, Karen Sykes (Fred) of Raleigh, and Barrie Smith of Raleigh; a son James Radford of LA California; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son Michael R. Smith and two brothers Philip L. Hinnant and Johnny E. Hinnant.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
