WILLIAM T. CLARKE
August 6, 1937 – March 31, 2017

The Reverend William Thomas Clarke, 79, retired United Methodist minister, of 5133 Newlands Road, Columbia, died Friday, March 31, 2017, at Peak Resources Health Center of the Outer Banks, where he had been a patient recently.

Born in Lawrence County, TN, he was the son of the late Richard Columbus and Snoda Sutton Clarke. He was married to the former Alexanne Bourdas who preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Duke Divinity School and had served as a United Methodist minister for more than 50 years. Locally, he has served the Tyrrell United Methodist Charge, the former Swan Quarter Charge and had served in the Creswell United Methodist Church after his retirement.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Columbia. Rev. Gil Wise, District Superintendent and Rev. Hyung Kim, pastor will officiate. Inurnment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Surviving are two sons, Dr. Holt A. Clarke and wife, Jackie of Charleston SC and Thomas Brantley Clarke and wife, Scarlet of Wanchese; a daughter, Lisa Clarke-Hunter and husband, Percy of Wanchese; three sisters, Mary Dean Talkington and husband, James of Thomson, GA, Ann Cunningham and husband, Earl of Savannah, TN and Juanita Harrison and husband, Jim of Savannah, TN; grandchildren, Jordan Clarke, Alexis Clarke, Kiera Clarke, Luke Clarke, Taylor Clarke, Carley Clarke, Stephen Clarke, Gatlin Clarke and Jackson Clarke.

He was preceded in death by siblings, R. C. Clarke, Jr., Frances Arrington, James Clarke and Robert A. Clarke.

The family suggests that memorials be directed to Tyrrell County Animal Shelter, P. O. Box 449. Columbia NC 27925.

The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall at the church during the hour prior to the service on Sunday.
