WILMA D. SPENCER
November 15, 1922 – September 20, 2016

Wilma Davenport Spencer, 93, of 702 Green Street, Columbia, died on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at her home.

Born in Tyrrell County, November 15, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Percy and Lillie Brickhouse Davenport. She was first married to Herbert L. Brickhouse, Sr. who preceded her in death and later was married to Jessie Lee Spencer, Sr. who also preceded her in death. She was a member of the Columbia Missionary Baptist Church and worked for many years at the former W. J. White Variety Store.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the Columbia Chapel of Bryan Funeral Service. Steve Bryan will officiate. Burial will follow on the family plot at Soundside Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

Surviving are a son, Jessie Lee Spencer, Jr. of the home; two daughters, Patricia Ann Armstrong of Columbia and Rita B. Rhodes and husband, Jerry of Plymouth; two daughter-in-laws, Shirlyn D. Brickhouse of Fairfield and Benny Spencer of Columbia ; two step-daughters, Gay S. Riddick and husband, Edward of Chesapeake, VA and Carol S. Holiday and husband, Michael of Columbia; a brother, Dallas Davenport and wife, Margenette of Columbia; a sister, Clara Mae Rhodes of Columbia; 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Herbert L. Brickhouse, Jr. and a step-son, Neil Spencer; a daughter, Jean B. Young; son-in-law Bobby C. Armstrong; sisters, Ida D. Maitland and Thelma Hassell; brothers, Thomas Davenport and Percy Davenport, Jr. and a grandson, Jeremy Rhodes.

Flowers are acceptable and memorials may be directed to Columbia Missionary Baptist Church, P. O. Box 82, Columbia NC 27925.

Friends may visit the family on Thursday between 6 and 8 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the home.
