Zelma Gertrude Layne, 83, of Scranton North Carolina, died Wednesday, March 31, 2016 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington.

Born in Cumberland County, Tennessee on August 24, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Ollie Conley Clift. She was married to Ernest Ray Layne who preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 4, 2016 at Parson Mortuary in Muncie, Indiana, The family will receive friends Monday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Ronnie Smith will officiate.

Burial will follow in the family plot at the Garden of Memory- Muncie Cemetery.

Surviving are three sons; Wendell R. Layne and wife Phyllis, Randy Layne and wife Brenda both of Muncie, IN, Darrell A. Layne of Scranton, NC; a daughter Brenda L. Clem and husband Carl of Scranton, NC; three brothers, Edward Graham and wife Theda, Vernon Graham, Bill Graham and wife Jewel all of Crossville, TN; a sister Wanda G. Vest and husband Wayne of Minnesota; five grandchildren, Carla Taylor and husband Gary of Pinetown, Derrick Layne and wife Melinda, Amanda Lindsey and husband David, James Layne and fiancée Shelley McQueen, Kimberley Grayson and husband Jacob all of Muncie, IN; seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Wendell R. Layne, Jr., Brendan K. Clem; a sister, Marie Walters and a brother Elmer Graham.
