Allan White Ballance
July 8, 1929 – January 25, 2026
 

Allan White Ballance, 96, of Fairfield, passed away at his home on Sunday, January 25, 2026.

Allan Ballance was born in Hyde County, on July 8, 1929, to the late James Madison and Lydia Jones Ballance.  He married the former Joyce Mooney, on January 23, 1954.

Allan was a decorated veteran who honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and later spent his working years involved in the family farm.  He was a member of the Fairfield Missionary Baptist Church.

After returning home from the military, he worked with U.S. Geodetic Surveyors in many areas on the East Coast. He was very proud of his farming accomplishments. He was a well known waterfowl guide, providing successful goose and duck hunts over many years. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of memories of those fortunate enough to gather at his (Quack Shack) and listen to stories of days gone by.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 29. 2026, at the Fairfield Cemetery with Valerie Tyson officiating.  Family will visit with friends at the Fairfield United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, one hour prior to the service

Allan is survived by two sons, Mitchell Ballance (Gwen) and Royce “Buddy” Ballance, both of Fairfield, and a daughter, Darlene B. Carawan (Ted) of Belhaven; seven grandchildren:  Shelley Hodges (Jake), Daniel Carawan (Hayley), Madison Ballance (Mallory), Georgia B. Carawan (Dillon), Alaina Binkley(Daniel), Haley Ballance, and Chelsea Ballance; eight great-grandchildren:  Rex Hodges, Holly Hodges, Desiree Binkley, Alyssa Binkley, Baylor Ballance, Cora Ballance,  Reece Carawan and Wade Carawan; his sister Joyce B. Jones; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Mooney Ballance,  a daughter in-law, Phyllis S. Ballance; three brothers, Gene Tunney Ballance, Kirk Ballance, and Clen Ballance and two sisters, Ruth B. Sadler and Cora B. Best.
