October 10, 1949 – November 21, 2021

Amanda Lou Sears Schmitt, 72, of Engelhard, died November 21, 2021, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Amanda was born in Beaufort County on October 10, 1949, to the late Daniel Webster and Maribelle Gibbs Sears. She was married to Robert “Bobby” Schmitt who preceded her in death.

She was a former member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Fairfield and later became a member of St. Georges Episcopal Church in Engelhard.

During her early years, Amanda worked in the land developing industry and, in that time, she became very close with her dearly loved co-workers. Later she worked for Hyde County EMS as an Emergency Medical Technician­-I, for over twenty years where she took great pleasure serving the people of her community. She had many special interests and talents in life including ceramics, cake decorating, and floral arranging. 

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at Amity United Methodist Church. Father James Lupton will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service at St. George’s parish house. A private inurnment will follow at the family plot at Soul Cemetery.

Surviving is one son, Bryon G. Schmitt (Elsa) of Engelhard; three grandchildren, Sydney Schmitt (Justin), Mandy Schmitt, Garrett Schmitt; one great-grandson, Sterling Gray Schmitt; one brother Charles Sears of Fairfield; five sisters, Marie S. Barnhill of Williamston, Marlis Smith of Fairfield, Sara S. Meekins of Engelhard, Mary Armstrong (Jerry) of Fairfield, Janet Russ (Anthony) of Fairfield; two God Daughter Kristie Sisson (Kevin) of Raleigh, Marianna Russ of Fairfield and many nieces and nephews and a special friend, Maryanne Green.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Daniel Webster Sears, Jr. and Nathan Sears.
