Audrey Fisher Simmons
November 8, 1938 – January 12, 2026

Audrey June Fisher Simmons was born on November 8th, 1938, in Hyde County.  She was the youngest of six children born to Mr. and Mrs. Daniel T. Fisher. She was married to Joseph Leslie Simmons III. 

As a lifelong Hyde County resident, Audrey worked for Sawyer’s Land Development for 15 years and served the Hyde County community for 16 years working at the Hyde County Health Department. Along with her husband, she owned and operated the Osprey Nest Campground. Audrey loved living on Lake Mattamuskeet amongst the beautiful sunsets, peaceful waters and magical sights and sounds of countless swans, snow geese, ducks and ospreys. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and spending time with her large family. As an active member of the Fairfield Methodist Church, she volunteered her time and talents selflessly. 

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at the Fairfield Methodist Church with Rev. Valerie Tyson officiating.  Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.  Interment will follow at the Fairfield Cemetery.

Surviving are three children: Pamela Simmons Cahoon (Guire) of Swan Quarter, Joseph “Joey” Leslie Simmons IV of Fairfield, and Donald Glenn Simmons (Kim) of Engelhard; five grandchildren: Brandy Cahoon Pugh (Darrell), Daniel Cahoon (Sara), Donald Simmons II, Anna Simmons Fincher (Brandon), and Joseph “Jay” Leslie Simmons V; nine great-grandchildren: Danielle Pugh Arthur (Ryan), Carl Pugh (Brandi), Kylie Simmons, Leah Cahoon, PV2 Landon Cahoon, Edwin Cahoon, Lizzie Fincher, Emmett Cahoon and Kate Fincher; and one great-great-grandchild: Hunter Arthur.

Audrey is preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Simmons; five siblings: Gladys Fisher Lupton, Mary Fisher McKinney, Wilbur Fisher, Lattie Fisher, and Lloyd Fisher; and her granddaughter, Averi Elizabeth Simmons
