Becky A. Sawyer
August 2, 1942 – January 10, 2026

Becky Sawyer, 83, of the Rose Bay Community, entered her eternal rest on Saturday, January 10, 2026. 

Becky was born in Elizabeth City, NC, on August 2, 1942, to the late William Earl Anderson and Pauline Silverthorne.

She lived in Elizabeth City, NC, until her daddy died, and then moved to Durham, NC, and lived there for several years, and later moved to Hyde County, where she graduated from West Hyde High School.

Following her graduation, she attended nurses' training and became an LPN. She worked at Albermarle Hospital in Elizabeth City, NC.

She married Dewey W. Sawyer on August 17, 1963.  She worked at Pitt Memorial Hospital for 1 1/2 years and then returned to Hyde County, where she worked at the former Williamson Funeral Home in Swan Quarter, NC, until her family came along. Later, she worked for a few years at the Hyde County Health Department.

She was a member of Rose Bay Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a pianist for 50 years.  She loved the Lord and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Becky is survived by her loving husband of 62 1/2 yrs, Dewey W. Sawyer, three sons: Phillip Sawyer (Tina), Michael Sawyer, and Perry Sawyer (Michelle).  Two daughters: Amy Sawyer and Bonny Smith (Vince).   Four grandchildren: Reid Sawyer, Megan Wooley (Matthew), Ashley Sawyer, and Nolan Sawyer and one brother Charles Credle.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Soule Cemetery in Swan Quarter, with Jerald Craddock officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service.

Serving as pallbearers are Nolan Sawyer, Reid Sawyer, Matthew Wooley, Brian O'Neal, Andrew O'Neal, Patrick Tuck, Todd Credle, and Chris Harris. Honorary Pallbearers- Tom Carawan Jr., Pete Credle, Martin Evans, and Stevie Cutrell.
