Calvin Monroe Harrell

Calvin Monroe Harrell, 88, of Columbia passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023, at ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie.
Calvin Monroe Harrell was born on May 24, 1935, in Tyrrell County to the late Luther Monroe and Aline Cooper Harrell. He was married to the former Dawn Leiphart for forty years.
He was a faithful member of the Malachi Chapel, serving as Sunday School superintendent for twelve years. He taught the teenage class for a while and was a Trustee. He also served as a Deacon at Columbia Missionary Church before moving his membership to Malachi Chapel FWB Church. Calvin was the head of Alcoholics Anonymous in Columbia and served as the AA coordinator for Tyrrell County and the Creswell Prison. He loved working as a route salesman for the Lance snack company and spending time with his customers. He was always sharing snacks with the children. He had a deep love for children and his family.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 10, 2023, at Malachi Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. David Furlough and Rev. Raymond Lagcher. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall. Interment will be at the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Dawn Leiphart Harrell, his son David Harrell and his fiancée, Lynley Herring of Beulaville, grandson Dylan Harrell and his girlfriend, Kelly Blanford of Wilmington, three step-grandchildren, Maygan Russ, Makelle Herring and Morgan Herring; a brother Carlisle Harrell of Columbia, and nieces and nephews: Beverly Swain (Bobby), Sarah S. Copeland (Will), Hunter Copeland, Ellie Copeland, Andrew Swain (Chelsea), Grady Swain, Tim Harrell, Nancy Feener, David Harrell, Robert Harrell and Mike Clifton.
He was predeceased by his brother Therman Harrell.
