Carrie Reynolds Obituary

Carrie Jackson Reynolds
June 29, 1940 – January 15, 2021

God is Good All the Time

Carrie Jackson Reynolds, 80, of Columbia, NC, was called home on Friday, January 15, 2021, at Vidant Chowan Hospital, in Edenton, NC, and is now resting with her Savior, joining her late husband.

Mrs. Reynolds was born in Tyrrell County on June 29, 1940, to the late Delton Lester Jackson and Grace Holadia Jackson. She was married to Charles L. Reynolds on June 8, 1958, in Columbia, NC.

Mrs. Reynolds grew up in Tyrrell County enjoying the country life, attending Columbia High School where she loved playing basketball.  After high school, Mrs. Reynolds married the love of her life, C.L. Reynolds and they moved to Manteo to begin their life together. She was primarily a stay at home mom, but as the children grew, she kept some children in her home, substitute taught in the schools and was an assistant in some classrooms for Dare County Schools, and had a knack for history and dates. Nearly every afternoon, she could be found catching up with friends over coffee in the neighborhood at Mrs. Hilda’s house before they all made dinner.  In the spring of 2009, she and CL moved back to their hometown of Columbia, NC where they continued their life together.

Mrs. Reynolds was such a hostess and loved having a get together!  A pot of something was always ready for anyone who stopped by.  She was known for her cooking and for hosting many parties, ranging from family get-togethers to high school reunions to wedding rehearsal dinners.  She loved setting a beautiful table, but she would rarely be caught sitting to enjoy the meal, always ensuring others were taken care of.  Anyone was always welcomed in the home.

Family was always very important to Mrs. Reynolds.  She loved hosting all of her siblings, nieces, and nephews as well as her own children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  She knew how important it was to offer time to gather and ensure a love of each other would grow.  Alongside typical holiday gatherings, she offered time each month to celebrate birthdays and allow everyone to talk and enjoy each other’s company.

Involvement in church was also an important part of her life.  She served on many committees, sang in the choir, and always had a huge yummy dish ready for covered dinners throughout the years and in the many churches she attended with her husband.  She was often involved in Vacation Bible School as a teacher or support.  Her faith spilled over beyond the church buildings and she was quick to offer a prayer with or for you, should you need it.

Mrs. Reynolds was preceded in death by her husband C.L.; sister and brother-in law, Betty Mae Midgett and Sam Midgett; and brother, Nathan Jackson. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Wilma Rae Owens and George Owens and sister-in-law, Karen Jackson; a daughter and three sons: Tara Johnson and husband Lee of Elizabeth City, NC;  Kurt Reynolds and wife Joanne of Columbia, NC; Charles Reynolds and wife Tammy of Greenville, NC;  Benjamin Reynolds and wife Bridget of Manteo, NC. She has eleven grandchildren:  Eli (wife Anna) and Jared Johnson; Farley (wife Kelly) and Lauren Reynolds; Landon, Wiley, and Makenna Reynolds; Daven, Gabe, Shane, and Hank Reynolds. She has four great-grandchildren: Calvin Johnson; Brandon Ray Baugher II; Delton and Graham Reynolds.  She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews across NC, TN, and VA.

A private graveside service will be held at Soundside Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery at a later date.
