Celia G. Cahoon
January 20, 1933 – May 15, 2025

Celia Adele Gibbs Cahoon, 92, of Swan Quarter, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, Thursday, May 15, 2025, at her residence.

Mrs. Celia was born in Hyde County on January 20, 1933, to the late Will R. and Margaret Ballance Gibbs. She was married to Carl M. Cahoon, Sr. who preceded her in death.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her family, especially for Sunday dinners and holidays; always making sure she had prepared her family’s favorite things, her pimento cheese, chocolate cakes, and angel biscuits. 

Her love extended beyond family.  She had a gift for making everyone feel welcome, turning strangers into friends with her warmth and genuine smile.

She was a longtime member of Soule Methodist Church and previously a member of Providence Methodist Church.  She was active in the former Swan Quarter Service Group.

One of her most favorite places was to spend time at her cottage in Kitty Hawk.  While at home, she always enjoyed sitting in her sunroom, where she could look at her flowers, Koi pond, and watch the many hummingbirds gather around her windows, all while keeping an eye on the comings and goings of Swan Quarter.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Soule Methodist Church. Pastor Jerald Craddock will officiate. Burial will follow at Soule Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the home place.

Surviving are three sons, Carl M. “Guire” Cahoon, Jr (Pam), Gary Cahoon, Charles W. “C.W.” Cahoon (Debbie) all of Swan Quarter; one daughter, Carla C. Simmons (Pat) of Fairfield; one special niece that was raised as part of the family, Amy Levering (Paul) of Apex; ten grandchildren, Brandy Pugh (Darrell), Daniel Cahoon (Sara), Amber S. McCann (Chip), Courtney S. Midyette (David), Ashton S. Ortega (Gabe), Erica C. Wisecup (Jesse), Charlie Cahoon (Jenny), Alex Levering, Nicholas Levering and Isabella Levering, fourteen great-grandchildren, Danielle Pugh and fiancée Ryan Arthur, Carl Pugh (Brandi), Leah Cahoon, Landon Cahoon, Edwin Cahoon, Emmett Cahoon,  Cayden McCann, Easton McCann, Truett Midyette, Eva Hope Midyette, Zephaniah Midyette, Cora Wisecup, Lila Cahoon, Liam Cahoon, one newborn great-greatgrandchild, Hunter Arthur; a brother, Russell Gibbs (Faye) of Winterville and several special nieces and nephews.
