Celia Ann Hewett-Hook, 76, passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at her home in Columbia surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Celia was born in Pinehurst,  Moore County, North Carolina on April 19, 1948, to the late  Florence Phillips Hewett and Leslie W. Hewett Sr.

In her professional life, she was a senior program manager for Merck Pharmaceuticals. She worked Internationally to organize and enable worldwide medical conferences. She was co-founder of the employee childcare program for Merck. Celia was a multi-talented fabric artist. Her creativity and precision in quilt-making was known and recognized widely. She was an ardent lover of the arts and a dedicated supporter of Pocosin Arts. She was also a member of the Tyrrellinean club and did extensive volunteer work. Celia was a member of her beloved Saint Andrews Episcopal Church in Columbia NC. The most important aspect of Celia's life was her great love of family. 

She is survived by her Bonus Daughter Jessica Jarvis of Columbia NC; her brother, Leslie “Bill” W. Hewett Jr., of Oriental, NC: several nieces and nephews, and her daughter-in-law, Phadra Base of Warner-Robins, GA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Hook, Sr., her son George Alexander Base, brother, Phillips Hirst Hewett, and sister, Florence-Emily Litchfield.

A memorial service will be conducted at Saint Andrews Episcopal Church in Columbia, at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, September 28, 2024.

In lieu of flowers Celia has requested that memorial donations be made to Pocosin Arts School of Fine Crafts, P.O. Box 690, Columbia, NC 27925.
