Charles “Spike” Warren DeBarr
August 14, 1939 – July 22, 2023
Charles Warren DeBarr, 83, passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at his home in Plymouth.
Charles was born in Orange County, VA on August 14, 1939, to the late Clarence Benjamin and Isabel Roach Debarr.
“Spike”, as everyone called him, attended school in Washington, DC to become a meat cutter for Safeway Stores, Inc. and worked for that company his entire career. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and golfer.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Betty E. DeBarr and children, Sarah E. Mangone (Vince), of Camden, SC, and Charles W. DeBarr, II (Teresa) of Ft. Wayne, IN; four grandchildren, Melissa Sullivan of Heath Springs, SC, Tiffany Hollifield, of Columbia, SC, Frank Warner of Fresno, CA and Christina Rayl of Fremont, IN; and thirteen great grandchildren; and a sister, Carolyn Plaster of Christiansburg, VA.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at the Roanoke Ecological Science Center, 201 W. Water Street, in Plymouth.
