Clarence "Buddy" Joseph Brickhouse Obituary

Clarence “Buddy” Joseph Brickhouse
August 28, 1939 – December 10, 2024

Clarence Joseph “Buddy” Brickhouse, 85, of the Gum Neck community passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, in the comfort of home, by his wood heater, surrounded by his wife and children.

Buddy was born on Soundside on August 28, 1939, to the late Clarence “Henry” and Ida Cahoon Brickhouse.

Buddy was member, Elder and Sunday School Teacher of the Gum Neck Church of Christ for many years.  He was a store clerk for most of his life enjoying the friendship of the whole Gum Neck community.  Outside the store, he enjoyed working in the yard, working in the garden and caring for his chickens.  His most treasured joy was that of tracing out genealogy, some of which he was able to have printed and published locally.  He probably knew more about your family than you and could tell you a few stories you never heard.

Buddy is survived by his wife, Annie Lee Rose Brickhouse of 59 years, who so affectionately called him, “Bric’us”.

He is survived by his children: Clarence “Joey” Brickhouse (Lindley) of Jamesville, NC; Nerissa Johnson (Edwin) of Gum Neck, NC;  Paula Brickhouse, of Gum Neck, NC;  Samuel “Sam” Brickhouse of Louisburg, NC, Jenny Clements (Mike) of Gum Neck, NC;  Daniel “Major” Shively (Meredith) of Gum Neck, NC and Tom Clancy of Louisburg, NC, Norma Garcia of Gum Neck, NC.

He is also survived by five grandchildren: Caleb Brickhouse (Kaitlyn) of Bear Grass, NC, Mikel Piece (Courtney) of Gum Neck, NC, Kendall Hayman (Joey) of Grandy, NC, Noah Piece of Gum Neck, NC, Henry Johnson of Gum Neck, NC, and two great-grandchildren: Millie Shively and Cade Brickhouse.

His nieces and nephews are Tony Rose (Beverly), Cindy Rose Urick, Hank Rose (Sue), Boyd Rose (Betty) and JoAnn Rose Brake (Ricky).

He was preceded in death by his sister Delores B. Rose.

The family will receive visitors Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 10:00 am in the Fellowship Hall of the Gum Neck Church of Christ (1516 S Gum Neck Rd, Columbia, NC).  The funeral service will be at 11:00 am in the church.  A graveside service will follow afterwards for immediate family in the Brickhouse Cemetery at the homestead.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gum Neck Church of Christ (1516 S. Gum Neck Rd., Columbia, NC 27925) or Amedisys Foundation (3854 American Way, Ste. A, Baton Rouge, LA 70816).

Arrangements are by Bryan Funeral Service, Columbia.
