David P. Midyette Jr.
February 22, 1942 – May 23, 2025

David Pell Midyette Jr., 83, of Scranton, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home, surrounded by family on Friday, May 23, 2025.

David was born in Beaufort County, NC, to the late David Pell Midyette, Sr., and Herma Gibbs Midyette. He was a member of Sladesville Missionary Baptist Church.

He served in the United States Army stationed in Alaska. Following his military service, he worked as a commercial fisherman and later retired from the Department of Corrections.

David was a self-sufficient, hardworking man who was content with the simpler things in life. He had a love of being on the water and enjoyed fishing, oystering, and shrimping.

A graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Sladesville Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor Phil Dietz will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Surviving are three daughters, Vanessa M. Gibbs (Mitchell) of Greenville, Jenna Brinn (Daniel) of Scranton, and Davee Midyette of Scranton; four grandchildren, Mackenzie Gibbs, Rylee Ambron (Zachary), Aislyn Brinn, and Colby Brinn; one brother Gary Midyette (Judy) of Washington; two sisters, Diane Moore and Marie Buck, both of Chocowinity; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, June Midyette and Carolyn Midyette.
