David J. Schroeder
February 19, 1965 – May 12, 2024

David John Schroeder, 59, of Grassy Ridge, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at his home.

David was born in Elyria, Ohio on February 19, 1965, to the late Walter J. and Beulah Wise Schroeder. He married Cindie Billcheck, who survives, on August 4, 1990, and they enjoyed 33 years of marriage. To them were born four children. Surviving is a daughter, Cora Pratt (Wyatt) of Hicksville, OH, one son, Caleb Schroeder of Belhaven, NC; and daughters Joanna Schroeder of Belhaven, NC, and Rebekah “Beckie” Schroeder (Karl Martin) of South Boston, VA. Also surviving are three brothers, Kenneth Schroeder (Jeanette) of Cleveland, OH, Norman Schroeder (Margie) of Solon, OH, Thomas Schroeder (Dana) of New York, and a sister, Kathleen S. Konya (Jeff) of Medina, OH.

David enjoyed many things in life but most iconically, a leisure drive in his orange convertible VW Bug, or his green Jeep. He could also be found riding through town on his most recent baby, his red Harley. He had a deep love for Ocracoke Island and spent as much time as possible out there.

His heart of compassion for all humans speaks louder than words. You could always find him talking to someone and making a new friend. His heart was big and he cared deeply for everyone. He was always ready to lend a hand or a listening ear. He loved working with his family on any project that came up. He was very talented at many things and if he didn’t know how to do something, he’d figure it out one way or another.             

The family will gather with friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Union Grove Church of Christ. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 17, 2024, at Union Grove Church of Christ. Pastor Eddie and Pastor Ivey will officiate. The final resting place will be at Davis Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the many, many people who have shown love and support during this extremely difficult time. Y’all are appreciated.
