Doris Raburn Cahoon, 85, of Swan Quarter, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, September 14, 2025.
Doris was born in Hyde County on April 5, 1940, to the late Joseph Madison and Mary E. Lupton Raburn. She was married 62 years to Thomas “Wahab” Cahoon, who survives.
Doris was a lifelong member of the Swan Quarter Christian Church. She spent her early years working at the Hyde County Sheriff’s Dept. and then in the family business, Cahoon & Wahab General Store and Grocery. In her later years, she worked in many roles at Hyde Park Pharmacy. She loved to fish with Wahab where she would usually catch the biggest one! She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She collected “Beanie Babies” in which she generously shared with the young family members as well as others.
The family will visit with friends on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Bryan Funeral Service in Swan Quarter.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at the Swan Quarter Christian Church with Raffael Farrow, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Soule Cemetery.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her two sons Joey Cahoon and wife Sharon of Greenville, and Jeffrey Cahoon and wife Shelly of Ayden, grandchildren: Matthew Cahoon (Susan) of Greenville, Jenny Evans (Zack) of Raleigh, Ethan Cahoon, of Greenville, Tommy Cahoon of Cary, and Cadence Cahoon of Swan Quarter, great-grandchildren: Warren Cahoon and Haley Cahoon, and her sister Lenora R. Bright of Swan Quarter. In addition, she is survived by a multitude of nieces and nephews scattered across the country.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Tommy Cahoon and Charles Cahoon, her brothers, Jim Raburn, Jackie Raburn and J.W. Raburn, and her sisters, Mary Lou Clausing, Harriet Pendleton, and Josephine “Jo” Haywood.
