Dorothy “Dot” C. Spencer
February 8, 1941 – January 29, 2022

Dorothy “Dot” Capps Spencer, 80, of Swan Quarter, died Saturday, January 29, 2022, at her residence.

Dot was born in Johnston County on February 8, 1941, to the late Albert and Rachel Hill Capps. She was married to Roger A. Spencer who preceded her in death.

Her many friends and her family will miss Dot’s love for farm life and bountiful gardens and flower beds, her great country cooking and memorable cakes, lovingly made and shared crafts including baskets, clothes, and flower arrangements, and her sharp wit and sense of humor.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at the family’s residence at 3957 Quarter Road, Swan Quarter. Pastor Mike Wheeler will officiate.

Surviving are two daughters, Jennifer S. Spencer (Andy) of Swan Quarter and Melanie S. Cahoon (Ben) of Nags Head; five grandchildren, Josh Gibbs(Maria), Jonathan Gibbs (Morgan), Jessi G. Sadler (Gage), Melissa Southern (Marcus), and James Cahoon; three great-grandchildren, Dustin Gibbs, Trevor Gibbs, Henry Southern, and one brother, Larry Capps (Faye) of Smithfield.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers Noble Capps and Donald Capps.

The Spencer family would like to thank Mrs. Dot’s caregivers and Liberty Home Health and Hospice for their tireless efforts and dedication.

Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the home place on 3957 Quarter Road, Swan Quarter.
