Earl Lenew Carawan, 83, of Fairfield, died on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at ECU Health Beaufort Hospital in Washington.

Earl Carawan was born in Beaufort County on August 18, 1939, to the late Maxwell M. and Sara Barnette Carawan. He was married to the former Myrdis Blake, who preceded him in death.

Earl was a maintenance supervisor for the Hyde County Public School System for twenty-two and a half years before retiring in March of 1993. He attended Fairfield Christian Church. He was a jack of all trades and a talented musician who loved to sing and play the guitar.

Per his request no services will be held at this time.

Surviving is a son, Ed Watson (Linda) of Swan Quarter; a grandson, Sam Watson of Pamlico Beach; a sister, Debbie Bynum, of Maysville; and a brother, Danny Carawan of Engelhard

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stephanie Watson; seven brothers:  Leland Carawan, Lester Combs, Chester Combs, Donny Carawan, Davy Carawan, John Carawan, Maxwell H. Carawan, and Denny Max Carawan.
