Edgar I. Smith, Sr.
May 24, 1936 – January 14, 2021

Edgar Isaiah Smith, Sr., 84, of Columbia, died, Thursday, January 14, 2021, at Vidant Chowan Hospital, Edenton.

Mr. Edgar was born in Duplin County on May 24, 1936, to the late Tommy M. and Alice Millard Smith.
He was first married to Nellie Garvey Smith who preceded him in death and later was married to Lorraine Rhodes Smith for fifty years.

Mr. Edgar retired as a correctional officer with the North Carolina Department of Correction with thirty-three years of service. He enjoyed reading, watching western movies, in his early years he found great pleasure in the outdoors hunting and fishing.

Due to concerns with Covid19, no service will be scheduled.

Surviving is a daughter Linda K. Moore of Roper; a son Eddie Smith of Kinston; three grandchildren, Kevin Moore and wife Lissia of Roper, Brandon Smith of Grifton, and Casey Smith of Pink Hill; two great-grandchildren, Emily Moore, Kenzie Smith; a brother Tommy R. Smith of Laurinburg, NC; a sister, Carolyn Reynolds of Newport, may nieces and nephews and his beloved dogs Tiny and Spot.

In addition to his two wives, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Gail Edwards; a son-in-law, Dale Moore, two sisters, Christine Pruitt, and Jean Padgett.
