Ella Lou Cahoon Swindell
July 19, 1935 – September 5, 2023

Ella Lou Cahoon Swindell, 88, of Swan Quarter, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at her home surrounded by loved ones.

Mrs. Ella Lou was born in Hyde County on July 19, 1935, to the late Sammie Edmond and Nolia Harris Cahoon.  She was married for sixty-eight years, to Richard Arlen Swindell who preceded her in death.

She was a member of Soule Methodist Church where she served as the church treasurer and the Soule United Methodist Ladies Aide. She was a former member of the Masonic Lodge 232 Order of the Eastern Star and the Home Demonstration Club.

Ella worked for the US Postal Service for over thirty years, as a rural carrier.  She enjoyed spending time in her beach cottage, yard sales, crocheting, traveling, cooking, and sharing her delicious pecan pies.  Most of all she had great love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, September 8, 2023, in Soule Cemetery. Pastor Jerald Craddock will officiate.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Surviving is a son, Ricky Swindell (Liz) of Swan Quarter; a daughter, Jeannie Swindell (Chrissie) of Wake Forest,  Buddy Ballance, husband to the late Phyllis Ballance of Fairfield; seven grandchildren, Lance Swindell (Ashley), Loren Gibbs (Matthew), Linsey Swindell, Madison Ballance (Mallory), Georgia Carawan (Dillon), Ellie Galantis (John), and Gant Sipfle (Rachel); eleven great-grandchildren, Tanner Swindell, Tatum Swindell, Henley Gibbs, Berkley Gibbs, Isla Gibbs, Baylor Ballance, Cora Ballance, Reece Carawan, Gavin Galantis, Holden Galantis, and Colton Sipfle.

In addition to her husband, and daughter she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Wayne Cahoon and Edmond Cahoon.   

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Soule Methodist Church 809 Main Street, Swan Quarter NC 27885.

The family would like to extend special thanks to her caregivers:  Glenda Yoder, Wanda Blount, Andrea Gregory, and Wanda Hershey.
