Elva Rae (Moore) Basnight

ELVA RAE M. BASNIGHT
July 12, 1931 – October 12, 2018

Elva Rae Moore Basnight, 87, of 280 Ramp Road, Columbia, died late Friday evening, October 12, 2018, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Tyrrell County, NC on July 12, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Sammie F. and Dorcas Reynolds Moore.  She was married to Jessie Willard Basnight who preceded her in death in 2002.

Mrs. Basnight worked for the late Mildred Walker’s Egg Grading Service in Scuppernong Community.  After that, she worked many years at Tyrrell Hardware until it closed.  She was a member of Cabin Swamp Church of Christ.

A memorial service will be held at Cabin Swamp Church of Christ on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.  Greg Brookins, Minister will officiate.  Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.

Surviving are a son, Jessie W. Basnight, Jr. and wife, Sandy of Shiloh, NC; a daughter, Carol B. Spruill and husband, Robert of Columbia; six grandchildren, Leslie Amyette, Susan Spruill Kelly, Dylan Spruill, Mandi Duncan, Corey Basnight, Wes Morgan and Gina Dickinson;
great-grandchildren, Maggie Halperin, Logan Amyette, Nikolas Amyette, Scott Duncan, Janna Beth Dickinson, Cassie Dickinson, Brody Dickinson, Connor Morgan, Cade Morgan and Cameran Morgan.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, James Franklin Moore.

Memorials are suggested to Cabin Swamp Church of Christ, Brad Gibbs, Treas., 1545 Burton Shell Road, Columbia NC 27925.

The family will receive friends between 12:45 and 1:45 p.m. prior to the memorial service at the church and other times at the home of Carol and Robert Spruill.

Arrangements are by Bryan Funeral Service, Columbia Chapel.
