Frances (Reynolds) Owens

Frances (Reynolds) Owens, 84, of Raleigh, NC, passed away on April 16, 2021, at Kelley’s Family Care Home, Wake Forest, NC.

Frances was born on April 19, 1936, in Tyrrell County, NC, to the late William Valentine and Ruth Harris Reynolds.  She was the wife of William Albert Owens, Jr., who preceded her in death in 2000.

Frances spent her working years in the financial industry.  The majority of her career was with the Ft. Eustis Federal Credit Union in Newport News, Virginia where she retired as the Manager of Collections. Post retirement Frances loved working as a teller at the State Employees Credit Union in Raleigh until 2011, where she was greatly loved by co-workers and her customers.  She was an active member of the North Raleigh United Methodist Church, singing in the choir and enjoying life with her friends in JOY (Just Older Youth).

Cooking for family and friends, sewing and crafting, playing card and board games and traveling with family and church friends were among Frances’ favorite activities. There were never too many people at a holiday, always room at the table. She was always ready to go when anyone offered an opportunity. Singing, particularly the old hymns, was also very special to Frances and she shared with many people whenever she had the chance. Frances made ‘going to Nana’s’ the highlight of the summer for her grandchildren who often speak of those fun times and the things that only she could do.   

Frances is survived by two daughters, Ann Nichols and husband Jim, of Durham, NC, and Lynne Fenner of Greensboro, NC; a son, Michael Owens and wife Tammy of Holly Springs, NC; grandchildren:  Ruth Rossbach, Ashley Bush, Mallory Elks, Matthew Fenner, Stefanie Sanborn, Allen Kent, Sara Gibson, Christina Wareham, Lauren Owens, James Michael Nichols and spouses; great-grandchildren:  Faelen Jones, Nolan Elks, Connor Elks, Cameron Bush, Isabella Wareham, and Sophia Wareham; and her sister Ruby Knight of Raleigh.

She was also preceded in death by her brother, Thorne Reynolds.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to North Raleigh United Methodist Church, 8501 Honeycutt Road, Raleigh, NC 27615.

Close family will gather at a graveside service on Monday, April 19th at the Bodwell Cemetery in Tyrrell County, NC.
