Lillian Gail Cohoon
September 1, 1939 – December 28, 2025
 

Gail Cohoon, 86, of Columbia, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at ECU Health Chowan Hospital in Edenton.

Gail was born in Tyrrell County on September 1, 1939, to the late Cecil Earl and Blanche Walker Cohoon.  She worked for over 30 years for the Virginia Public Schools as a Guidance Counselor, English Teacher, and an Adult educator for GED and ESL classes.  Gail was a proud graduate of East Carolina University (BS) and William and Mary (M.ED).  Her most treasured degree, Master of Arts in Religion from Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry, was earned after her retirement.  She was an ordained minister and would share her love for Jesus with all she met. Gail enjoyed traveling, reading, and was a talented watercolor artist.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at the Bryan Funeral Service Chapel, with Royce Reynolds officiating.  A visitation will be held following the service.  Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Columbia.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Sara Ann Cohoon Blalock. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and a wide circle of friends, who knew her strengths, flaws, and uncompromising spirit but loved her.
