Gene T. Ballance

Gene Tunney Ballance, 96, of Fairfield, died, Friday, February 24, 2023, at The Carrolton of Plymouth.
Gene was born in Hyde County on November 21, 1926, to the late James Madison and Lyda Jones Ballance. He was a WWII veteran serving his country while enlisted in the United States Navy.
He was the owner and operator of the former Ballance Gas Station, the Gene Tunney Steak House. He was the founder of the first oyster bar in Hyde County.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at the family plot in Fairfield Cemetery. Pastor Valerie Tyson will officiate.
The family will gather with friends immediately following the service.
Surviving is a son, Tunney K. Ballance, and a daughter, Cindy B. Mann (Lee) both of Fairfield; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister Joyce B. Jones of Fairfield and a brother Allen Ballance of Fairfield.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kirk Ballance, Clen Ballance, and two sisters, Ruth B. Sadler, and Cora B. Best.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department.
